It has been a brown winter thus far. We had two snowfalls, but they were of the type that, when combined with ambient temperature, were doomed to not last more than a couple of hours. Yesterday, however, a cold snap hit and apparently there was enough moisture for precip. It was snowing when I got home Thursday at about 5:00, again when I left yesterday at 6:30, but with highs projected of 43 and 44 for Sunday and Monday and lows just barely below freezing, I don't expect it to endure.
At least we had a nice 3" or so just before Christmas. But it does make me concerned that we're not going to build up much of a snow cap and will have a California-level fire season next year.

Date: 2017-12-24 11:39 pm (UTC)Normally our Christmas is whiter, this year not so much. Right now its in the mid 40s outside and our front 'yard', for want of a better term, is over half brown. But I'm a Phoenix boy, so this white stuff is still a bit of a novelty for me. At least I'm properly equipped: 2015 Subaru with 8" of ground clearance and snow tires!

Date: 2017-12-25 01:13 am (UTC)Our front is more brown than white and the roads are quite safe, which is a good thing. Temperatures don't look like any snow, at least that will persist, in the forseable future. But I'm sure we'll have some more snow this winter, I'm hoping for many feet! I hope you and yours also have a merry one! We just set up the tree, normally it's up earlier but with me having started working in December our schedules are kind of disrupted.
