Jellybeans
Apr. 10th, 2018 11:43 amI like jellybeans. But since they're pure sugar, I also like to avoid them. When I was in Phoenix last week on my last shopping day at Paradise Valley Mall, and one for four for shopping (well, technically two for five) I decided to get some jellybeans. There's a Fizzywigs (IIRC) across from The Body Shop where I was picking up a tub of gunk (that's the technical term) for my wife, having previously picked up a tub of gunk for myself. Had she contacted me earlier, we could have exploited their buy two, get one free offer for buying expensive tubs of gunk. Oh, well. On departing, I decided that it had been several years since I had bought some jellybeans, and I indulged myself.
(Body Shop keeps discontinuing my preferred brands of hand cream, I was making due with Almond Hand & Nail Butter and they introduced Almond Milk & Honey. My prev fav was Spa Wisdom Africa Honey & Beeswax, which went away, but may be returning! But they introduced something called Almond Milk & Honey which I REALLY like: very smooth application, dries quickly, and low order. I sometimes have hyperosmia and I require low odor.)
Last night, I was pondering how to safely consume the jellybeans. It wasn't just a matter of pouring a few in my hand and popping them in my mouth, it was more a matter of poodle-proofing them. And then the proverbial lightbulb appeared.

I have two or three empty bottles of a famous coffee brand known for burning their coffee, I find them handy to keep around for a variety of uses, such as crushing nuts or melting butter for popcorn. In this case, a temporary jellybean holder.
Said variety are cotton candy, popcorn, and I thought I'd try French vanilla. I'm kind of disappointed in it and don't plan on buying any more of that. I like the Dr. Pepper, I might get some more of that in a few years.

I had a temporary crown done just before Easter and haven’t had a jellybean since! I get the permanent one next Tuesday and will see how it behaves with these licorice goodies I’ve been waiting to have.

It was about a decade ago when I learned, much to my surprise and amazement, that fillings for cavities are not permanent things! I had no idea that they might need replacing over time. I was brushing my teeth one morning, went to rinse, and found a hard object in my mouth. I caught it and it was clearly part of a filling. Since then there's been at least two or three occasions when I've had fillings fail. Here's the odd part: after that first time, it's always been when I've been traveling or on vacation! In one case, I was just leaving town and was about five miles out of town, I was able to turn around and get the filling fixed. On another occasion I was 600 miles away in Colorado and was able to get in and see a dentist, they shot an x-ray and emailed it to my regular guy. It was too close to a second filling that they didn't feel comfortable fixing it: I wasn't having any sensitivity, so it wasn't an emergency and could wait until I was home in a few days. For me, the thing that I avoid is bubble gum, specifically Bazooka Joe. That stuff ripped a filling right out probably 30 years ago. Haven't touched the stuff since.
