It's a biopic. How can you spoil a biopic about a famous singer who died of AIDS? Though I do think the ninja battle was a bit over the top.
Wow. I've been a huge Queen fan since I was in high school in their early days, I have most of their albums, including most of Freddie's solo work including his album with Spanish opera star Montserrat Caballé, who passed away just in the last week or so.
So you might say that I'm a fan and that I've been looking forward to seeing this movie. And I am SO GLAD that they got rid of Borat playing Freddie!
The movie was awesome, at least IMHO. They did an excellent job of casting, I immediately fell in to the movie. Rami Malek did an excellent Freddie and the other actors were equally immersive. The music was great, as to be expected (if you're a fan - if you're not, why are you there or reading this?)
My only complaint, and I can understand it from a film making viewpoint, is making it look like Freddie died after Live Aid, when he lived six years after and the band released four albums, one after his death. They wanted Live Aid to be the capstone, which in some ways it was, and I can accept it.
He was an amazing talent, and at least he left a big recorded library behind to enjoy.
According to what I read recently, the DVD/BR release will contain all of the music they recorded for the Live Aid recreation, which should be pretty awesome.
Now to pull up the soundtrack list and see if I have everything and can recreate it in iTunes, I'm pretty sure that I have most of it.
