We shall see.

A storm moved in and we've had about 4-5" of snow in the last 8 hours. No big deal.

Tomorrow: possibly up to another 9". Again, no big deal. We drive Subarus with 8" of ground clearance and snow tires.

The big deal is 40-50 MPH winds with gusts up to 80 MPH. And we have a tree tall enough and large enough in diameter to level the entire house if it were to fall in a certain way. It's leaning in the direction the wind is going to be blowing.

We're planning on taking the dogs and my bag of games and going down to Alamogordo for the day. We'll see if we still have a house when we come back.

Fingers crossed, and thankful for insurance!

We should be safe, it's one-off record high winds.  If they were from the east, we wouldn't worry as they'd be pushing against the lean of the tree.

I was pretty sanguine about it last night, today I'm tensing up a bit.  I'm already dressed and have my cameras ready to go, planning on strategic meds to take with, just as if we were going out of town for a visit.

Sounds like you need to get rid of the tree... Fingers crossed about it not falling over

The problem is cost.  It would take several thousand dollars to remove the tree, which we just don't have since I've been unemployed for three years.  I expected my job to be permanent, my employer did not and never told me.

Have you obtained estimates for tree removal. I figured a couple grand for one in my backyard last year. I got three estimates that ranged from $550 to $1,200.

With getting my car paid off in a few months from our tax return, getting that tree taken out is a lot more viable.  Right now, we're making it but we're not saving anything and my credit card debt grows every time we have to pay car insurance.

The house survived, so far, looks like the entire town is still without power. I'm guessing one of the main lines coming up the mountain was taken out as the entire town is dark. I have a feeling we might be heading to Phoenix later Thursday.
