thewayneSo there's Chekov's Gun: if you show a gun in the first act, someone's going to get shot in the third act. I saw Checkov's Combine Harvester!
If you're a fan of Midsomer Murders and haven't seen the 4th series yet, read on.
So the 4th season ep 3 deals with crop circles and UFOs and, of course, murders. While Barnaby and Troy are driving off to do something or the other at night, Troy sees a UFO, almost driving right in to it! I knew immediately it was a combine, but I've spent a fair amount of time on a farm and in such country - the harvester was running with a huge light bar on. Barnaby walks up to it with his warrant card/badge held high, the driver stops and the DCI yells at him for not dipping his lights.
In the final act the remaining baddy is trying to escape from B in a high-speed chase, and I immediately turned to my wife and said "high-speed head-on collision with the combine!"
Two minutes later, a physics demonstration showing the value of wearing seat belts and owning a late enough model car to have driver-side air bags is seen.
