Ready for more TV/movie remakes? How about Battlestar Galactica and Princess Bride?!

First, a remake of The Princess Bride is not confirmed. Sony CEO was quoted as saying that "people were interested" in remaking it. The howl of outrage on Twitter and across the internet was inconceivable. And I think if the original author, William Goldman, were still alive we'd be hearing even more.

So hopefully it will remain a rumor and not be remade in my lifetime! While I don't consider it the "perfect" movie, it's a damn good movie, and no, it should not be remade. But as Hollywood hates taking chances with movies, who knows.

Remaking Battlestar Galactica is definite. This time it's NBC/Universal, and they're making it for their new streaming service, Peacock, just like CBS did for their streaming channel with the new Star Trek series. Myself, I'm very much indifferent about this as I didn't succeed in finishing the Edward James Olmos remake: it was a series that seemed as if you missed one episode, you were kinda screwed. And we didn't have a DVR at the time.

This is technically not a remake, as they are "exploring other stories within the mythos" of the Galactica universe. Could be interesting, but I'm not interested in signing up for another streaming service. If NBC becomes available through Hulu, then we'll see.

One interesting thing about this is it's being developed - currently - by Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot. He's definitely a hot property right now and could do a heck of a job. We shall see what happens. Of course many recent movie projects, including Star Wars, have had creators shuffled around before they've come to fruition, so no guarantee he'll stay with the project.

I'm sure there's more than enough fans dancing in the streets over this one, so more power to 'em.

I wouldn't trust anyone to do a remake of The Princess Bride correctly. For one thing, I'm not sure they can get a big enough Fezzik.

Very true. Not many people had Andre’s presence. There are few wrestlers - if any! - who are even his size!

I mean, they could do some stuff with heel lifts and some clothing choices, but they really would need someone genuinely gigantic to get the feeling right, and there aren't that many people in the world who could look and act the part.
