So now they're getting U.S. data protection, which basically means none. I'm sure that BoJo can fix that by the end of the year.

They don't want to follow EU rules, they don't get EU protections.  Kinda axiomatic.  And they're going to find that they have to follow EU standards for safety when they want to sell products within the EU zone, and I doubt the EU negotiators will back down on that as there's lots of countries that will have the negotiators' guts for garters if they do.

I did notice that.  I was a little surprised as I'd think an org like Reuters would catch that, but overall American-based reporting has gotten considerably sloppier over the last decade or so.

Yet another thing that I'm sure there were promises made about how that wouldn't happen at all, except, of course, that it will entirely happen and the people responsible will laugh that anyone thought otherwise.
