RIP: Max von Sydow

What an actor, one of the true greats. Very famously known for his work with Bergman and his game of chess played with Death, he also was the voice of the three-eyed raven in Game of Thrones, he was in Stallone's Judge Dread, the 1984 Dune movie, Never Say Never Again, Strange Brew, Conan The Barbarian (he worked with both Stallone and Ahnold?!), Flash Gordan as Ming the Merciless, Footloose, Three Days of the Condor, The Exorcist, and The Seventh Seal, where he played that game of chess. He was 90. Quite a good run.

I just watched Three Days of the Condor recently on Prime. Excellent acting by all!

I picked up the ebook not too long ago and have the DVD. I may do a double-header in the not distant future.

He was in so many movies, playing such a wide range of characters. I always did like seeing him. The ones that stand out the most to me are his roles in Flash Gordon, Three days of the Condor, and (for some reason) Strange Brew.

For some reason, I’m thinking of Olivier in Marathon Man, and I know it was Olivier. And I was thinking of the commander in Das Boot, and I knew it wasn’t Max. But I do absolutely love those three movies, I have a copy of Three Days, both the movie and book, I really need to read the book. Flash Gordon is B-movie shlock, but it’s wonderful B-movie shlock!
