"We have it totally under control."
-- Trump, 1/22

"When you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done."
-- Trump, 2/26

"I think by Memorial Day weekend we will largely have this coronavirus behind us."
-- Mike Pence, a month ago

Have we broken a hundred thousand dead yet?

There's only two things you need to not trust about Trump: everything he says and everything he does. Other than that, he's completely trustworthy.

Officially, by the end of the day - we're already above 95k. The NYTimes printed all their names on the front page today.

Unofficially, there are a lot dead who weren't counted for various reasons.

If it helps, the people who got Trump and Pence into office may be dealing with their own consequences.

Russia is apparently dealing with a small defenestration crisis to go along with its pandemic problems: Three frontline health care workers have mysteriously fallen out of hospital windows in Russia over the past two weeks:

Shulepov was hospitalized for coronavirus on April 22, the same day he and his colleague Alexander Kosyakin posted a video online saying that Shulepov had been forced to continue working after testing positive for coronavirus.
...
It is rare for doctors to fall from windows in Russia, but Shulepov was the third health worker to fall out of a window in the country in the past two weeks.
...
Nepomnyashchaya allegedly fell out of a window during a meeting with regional health officials, during which they discussed turning the clinic into a coronavirus facility.
Nepomnyashchaya was reported to have opposed those changes due to the lack of protective gear in the hospital.
...
On April 24, Natalya Lebedeva, head of the emergency medical service at Star City, the main training base for Russia's cosmonauts, died in a hospital after a fall.

Trump shut down access from China, and then from the EU, apparently a bit of a shock to Merkel, who thought there should have been multilateral negotiations over it. Biden and the AOC crew were loudly decrying any reaction that involved singling out China as "xenophobia". IMHO, he's done a stellar job. He's not perfect, and can't anticipate events. I don't think anyone really can. So far, though, he's reacted in a timely and cautious manner, and has even been ahead of the curve a few times. There's not been another POTUS during my lifetime that I trust so much to do what he thinks is the right thing, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
