Adobe officially announces THE DEATH OF FLASH.

It goes end of life on at the end of this year. No more updates or bug fixes, which means it becomes even more riddles with security holes.

I've been meaning to rip it out of my systems, I guess now is a good time to do it.

And remember DO NOT install Flash from any site that is NOT Adobe.com!

AND a link of search results on how to remove it from your systems. In order to strip it out of your computer, you'll have to close any open browsers. It should not require a computer restart, but it would be a good opportunity to install any pending updates.

I wonder how long it will take the National Weather Service to upgrade their websites to something other than Flash to run their radar animations. It's the only reason it's on my system (from Adobe proper).

That makes me think of my wife and the observatory: you wouldn't believe the number of weather sites they monitor!  I doubt they directly monitor the NWS, they find third parties more accurate.  But it's quite possible that those third parties are pulling from NWS feeds.

And on 1 January 2021 we find out which of the sites we used to go to are no longer working because they've not gone off of Flash. I hope that someone in the Internet Archive or similar has figured out a tool to use so that people can use those things, even if to experience an old joke, they have to download the entirety of Homestar Runner and run it locally instead.

Sites won't stop working, it's just Flash won't get any more updates.  Eventually it'll have more and more updates and people will realize the threats outweigh the benefits and they'll find alternatives.  HTML has more than enough tools to support photo galleries, so that's not a problem.  I don't know what people use it for, don't really care.  I uninstalled it from my three computers and also uninstalled the developer tool from my iMac.  I can't uninstall it from my work computer as that's not my option.  If I encounter something that requires it from my personal equipment, then I'll have to reeval at that point.

Can't help ya there, sweetie!  I'm sure someone will figure out a solution.  I don't do that kind of programming.
