Slow Roads is a new browser, well, I hesitate to call it a game, but I'll go ahead and use that tag, and also the word experience. They've done a masterful job of leveraging a JavaScript library to randomly generate landscape and a road for you to drive on, all by yourself.

Just drive.

No other cars to avoid or crash in to. No pedestrians to mow down. No sheep. No score and no objectives. You can run into the ocean, though, and your speed is displayed, so you can have some bragging rights.

Developed by some programmers up in Scotland, it runs in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Just click on the web site below, and use the WASD keys to move around. You can also use your mouse if that's more your speed.

I've never understood the appeal of just "going for a drive" for the sake of it. My dad would announce "we're going for a drive" and my heart would sink, as it would be a couple of hours of mind numbing lassitude. Having to do the driving myself would be even worse, at least as a passenger I could attempt to stave off the boredom by sleeping. For me, driving is a tedious chore to endure to get to somewhere useful.
This game sounds like torture!

Heh.  I was going to write that I don't go for drives to just go for drives, that's not entirely true.  As a photographer, I do sometimes go for a cruise looking for photographs, and I just bought a new camera last night and may do some cruising soon.  I did some when I moved up here to learn the roads better, taking some of the state routes back into the mountains when my wife had to head back to Ohio when her mom had a stroke like two weeks after I moved up here.  But normally I have a solid destination in mind.

Sounds like the kind of thing that someone would be very grateful for, if they just want to burn some time for a while doing nothing. Maybe it can become something on the Desert Bus tour, where the point is to see whether the marathon will end before the browser crashes or not.

That sounds kind of fun. It has me reminiscing about the long drives my dad would take us on camping. :)
