RIP: Jimmy Buffet, 76

Sailed off to Margaritaville, never to return.

Something struck him fast, or was discovered far too late. In May he reported he had a serious medical problem and was being treated for it, but it was to no avail.

All reports seem to be that he was exactly the dude he seemed to be in his songs: laid-back partyer looking to have fun with friends and relax. And he had the voice and song-writing and performing skills to back it all up.

He will certainly be missed.

One of my "me songs" is "Desdemona's Building a Rocket Ship", and this house I'm living in is my "Beach House On The Moon". And I've read Buffet's books, which are rather entertaining. He loved good food, good drink, and good smoke, and the lifestyle is probably what killed him.

Skin cancer is what did it, I read today.

A rather rare form, caused by excess UV, and too much tropical sunshine and windburn. And now he's watching from his "Beach House On The Moon".

I'll add him to my list of Ancestors to honor at Samhain.

I only knew him through Margaritaville and the title of Cheeseburger in Paradise, but that seems to be the case that everyone knew him for that at a base and plenty of others knew him much better.
