New albums from Peter Gabriel and Jethro Tull!

Jethro Tull released their 23rd album earlier this year, RökFlöte. I picked it up last Friday and quite like it. Recommended if you're a Tull fan. Also, somewhat older news, Ian Anderson released a solo album in 2000 called The Secret Language of Birds. I thought that was also a quite good album. But RökFlöte is definitely full-on Tull.

Gabriel's next album, his first in just over twenty years, is titled I/O and will be released on December 1. He's been releasing individual tracks throughout the year with every full moon and remixes with every new moon. Well, now the whole shebang will be available!

I was never much of a Tull fan, but I love their Christmas album!

Their Christmas album is very, very good.  As albums of that genre - rock band-release Xmas albums - theirs is most definitely amongst the tops! I was very late acquiring a taste for Tull.  I didn't care for them when I was young, it's only in the last decade or so that I've come into them.  Going to see Ian Anderson live certainly helped.

Yeah, it was.  Then again, Gabriel has always been an interesting musician.

He started with Genesis back in their early days, left them and was replaced by Phil Collins.  Gabriel then made a series of very successful albums, did a lot of touring, and began working with and producing other artists.

I've been checking out the new Gabriel stuff, as well as hearing a bunch of it live at his show. I want to listen to the whole thing as a slightly more cohesive unit to see if I react differently - as it stands I really found it to be a mixed bag.

The Tull, I am going to listen to this afternoon!

Gabriel, his later stuff like Ovo and his previous album, definitely mixed bags.  I hope you like the Tull!

Definitely signs of change as an artist, which I am always happy to see even if I don't necessarily love the results.
