Now, if you copy that text and select the Decode function at Spam Mimic, you'll see that it contains the message "we blow up the zeppelin at midnight".
This is a process called Steganography, or hiding one message in another.
So how effective is wiretapping the entire US when you can do stuff like this? Set up a process with "an associate" that he knows emails from disposable address following a certain naming convention are from you, and you're in business. It's really easy to forge email addresses off of insecure mail relay agents, when I was at the PD we sent one from santa@northpole.com.

Date: 2006-02-10 09:17 pm (UTC)However, the damage caused by the loss of privacy and personal freedoms would be far greater than the damage caused by the small percentage of terrorists and criminals that are now getting away with whatever they are getting away with because we are not wiretapping everyone.
Oh yeah, and there's another problems with using a code (whether it's a cipher or a hidden message); you never know when your adversay has cracked the code. So you'll usually develop a confidence that your message is secure, and never know otherwise until it's too late.
