Windows 10 adoption rate increases to 70%
May. 2nd, 2024 11:28 amMeanwhile Windows 11 adoption rate DECLINES to below the 26% mark after hitting a high of just over 28%.
I'm running 11 Pro on my desktop at home. But given the choice, I prefer 10. I can't go back to it, don't have the media. And it's about to go to paid-for support, which I don't want to mess with. I have not yet found any feature in 11 that benefits me, in fact I had to find a workaround to move the task bar to the vertical left side of the screen, where I prefer it.
I really hate it when they eliminate features that people like.

Date: 2024-05-03 01:03 am (UTC)I am hoping to bypass 11 entirely and just wait for 12 to be stable. But I don't know if I'll have that option at work. (Work, however, does not seem eager to update to 11.)
I want XP's file search back.
I have Agent Ransack instead, and it's great. But it'd be nice to have something built into the OS. Or for, y'know, the support pages to actually list all the available search options.

Date: 2024-05-03 03:24 am (UTC)Agent Ransack sounds interesting, I'll have to look into it - a good search tool would be very nice. I still think about the old Dos Norton Utilities before he sold out to Symantec. I use Power Tools and ExplorerPatcher to move my task bar. They update EP probably once or twice a month, basically whenever MS does a major patch to W11.

It sounds like Microsoft did this on purpose, not for any good reason:

I use EP with 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. I also have Start11, but the last time I checked, it still doesn't support what 7TT does, to allow multiple taskbar buttons of the same program not to be grouped/locked together.
Agent Ransack (aka File Locator Light) is very good. I have the Pro version (File Locator Pro) and use it extensively for work. One neat feature is being able to do Boolean searches including a "NEAR" operator. For example, "(red OR blue) NEAR hat"

Date: 2024-05-03 08:57 pm (UTC)Oh, lovely. MS has been saying that 'future updates' would allow relocating the task bar, but I haven't seen it yet. Just like they were saying that a controller for colored fans would be integrated 'soon'.
Wow, a NEAR function! That's pretty cool!
