U.S. gov't suing Adobe over trapping users into hard to cancel, expensive subscriptions

Adobe software is expensive stuff, and you can't buy it, only rent it. With their most expensive package you can get it for $60 a month under their 'Yearly, paid monthly' plan.

But what happens if you cancel?

First off, good luck finding how to cancel! It's kinda hidden. And that's one of the complaints. Second, prepare to get slammed with an immediate charge of half of the remaining annual fee!

The Feds and the BBB have been receiving complaints about Adobe's practices for some time, and now they're taking action.

I should very much like for this to become a precedent, so that all of the other places that replicate the same pattern find out they should make their methods extremely transparent lest they suffer consequences.

I've said this before, but it bears repeating.  When Adobe announced Creative Cloud and their monthly rental fee, I spent $400 or so and bought the entire Creative Suite on offer at that time, I believe it was v6.5.  It served me well for quite some time.  And if I ever resurrect an old PC, I may reload it.  But as it's 32 bit software, it won't run on modern OSes and I'll be investing in newer, one purchase own forever, software.

Absolutely. I want software that I have paid for, at most, once. I prefer to have copies of things that are mine to use, rather than things that are subscriptions that someone else can take away at any time. Far too many things are only released as subscription things, though.
