President Joe Biden has withdrawn from running for re-election

Not much to say. The question is, what does this do for the race? The classic case for decades is that you support the incumbent president, so there's never much of a primary, and now this. It'll make for a heck of a convention, and it may well have handed the presidency to the convicted felon.

The Democrats have always been terrible at messaging. Joe Biden oversaw perhaps the greatest turnarounds of the economy that the nation has ever seen, and then you have Trumplestiltskin claiming that we have 50% inflation at his convention speech. The media - supposedly liberal - always criticizes Biden's gaffes, even though he's made them his entire political life, and never touches Trump's. It's become clear to me that the owners of said media want Trump to win because he ensures eyeballs to their product.

The one thing that gives me a little bit of hope is the die-hard MAGAts absolutely hate JD Vance, Trump's VP pick, because he married a non-white woman. They are spitting up furballs left, right, and center. I don't know if the DNC will be able to stomp Trump into the dirt, I really don't. They won't be able to campaign on Biden's policies if he's not running. It is an obvious and measurable/demonstrable fact that the country does better under Democratic administrations than Republican ones, but facts don't do a good job of swaying voters.

You forgot to add: While we always do better under the D's, its the R's that always claim credit afterward for what the D's did that was good for us.

It's always annoyed me when people blamed the media for this that and the other thing, but like you said, they have obviously been giving the Orange One a free ride, and it's pissing the hell out of me.

This country is heading to hell in the old handbasket and they are going to get what they deserve.
Unfortunately, they are going to take the rest of us with them. :o :o :o

And what the hell is up with Obama and Pelosi not endorsing Harris???

Manchin and others - as if Manchin matters - are calling for a mini-primary. It's possible Obama and Pelosi are waiting to see who possible Veep nominees sort out.

I have no idea how this will turn out. There appears to be good amounts of money and support pouring in after the decision, so it might be possible that even with most of the mainstream media in the pocket of the Republicans, there still are enough people who remember what happened that they don't want to do it again.

So now we get to see whether or not the not-usually-latent racism and sexism (and voter suppression) comes out or whether it can be knocked back far enough to allow the voters to make a decision with their heads.

From what I've read, Biden put in quite a framework to prevent election integrity challenges by Trump's people after the election is held, and that will transfer over to Harris as it was part of the Biden/Harris Election Campaign.  There's a lot of good people there, let's hope it holds.  About all the Republicans know is 'Cheat to win', hopefully they will fail.

I'm glad Biden realized things were going badly. I'd have voted for any Democrat, but cringed at the thought of his doing another four years. As Biden wasn't endorsed by the DNC I don't see why it would be a point of law to the Republicans who ran.

A-hole is angry and says 'they have to start over.' Obviously all he had was revenge and swipes at the Dems and no firm policies in mind anyway. Back to digging up dirt on Kamala.

The Cheeto Benito is grasping at straws.  Their entire strategy was predicated against Biden, and now that he's gone, it's wrecked.  They have to recalibrate at a very late stage, and I expect there's very little dirt on Harris as she hasn't been a national political figure.  Let's see: she's black - not particularly targetable, she doesn't have children - which they've targeted but it's a really weird one, there's just not a lot there for them to latch on to - except for her laugh.  There's very little federal law on how elections are to be conducted, except for the qualifications, date, and the workings of the electoral college.  The states control how ballots are generated, and since the Dems haven't had their convention yet, those ballots haven't been set!

I fear for America. :( I'm part American myself.. so... this hits home. Esp, seeing as both Dad and Trump are New Yorkers? (Thankfully Dad was not as fucked up as Orangeade.)
