A raccoon who decided that life was no longer worth living ran across the road directly in front of me as I was driving home from the observatory last night. It had perfect timing, even taking into account my braking and swerve.

*bump*bump feels like murder, even when the critter is just plain suicidal. Sympathies. I still feel badly about the all-black kitten snoozing on the blacktop asphalt when I drove home after dark one night.

Sorry to hear it. The one time I hit a critter with a car was something that left me feeling sad for several days. It wasn't something I'd done intentionally (the swerving and braking were parts of my experienc, too), and bummed me out pretty good.

My hope is that at least he/she/it went quick and didn't hang around long afterward.
