I went up to the observatory after school last night armed with a loaf of French bread and assorted other things and produced this decadent goodie. I do not like Bobby Flay but have watched Food Nation on rare occasions whilst waiting for something else on Food Network. They were doing a special on Chicago food and had the above recipe, I'd been wanting to dust off my Cuisinart and have at it. The recipe came together pretty well, though I probably should have softened the butter in the microwave. It had been sitting out for a couple of days at room temperature, but room temperature takes on a slightly different meaning when it's 30-50f outside.

Anyway, the break came together wonderfully, Russet and the folks at the observatory loved it. Next time I do it for myself and Russ, though, I'm going to do half a loaf the way the recipe wants it, the other half with the bread fully sliced so that the broiler will crisp them as I prefer my garlic bread crispier as opposed to Russet's non-crispier.

Followed up the evening with chocolate milk shakes. I've been kvetching for a while, trying to find a good chocolate milk shake in town with very poor success. Well, I've given up my quest as last night I made EXACTLY what I've been looking for! I started with Breyer's Chocolate, no since using cheap ingredients for an occasional indulgence, added chocolate syrup and a bit of milk.

HEAVEN, I'M IN HEAVEN!

Well, maybe not heaven, but definitely had VERY happy taste buds! Everyone else thought it was a great shake, too!
