My wife left me
Feb. 23rd, 2006 12:09 ambut she'll be back next week. Went to Escapade in CA, I'm sure she'll have a great time. Meanwhilst, I'm poodle-sitting. Thursday I'm going to go to Las Cruces and do a book store crawl and spend the night at my aunt's.
Russet called when she arrived at (and got lost in) Phoenix, she's spending the night with my parents. She got her oil changed in Alamogordo as she was heading out of town and they told her she has 2mm of brakes left, I'm not sure if that's rotor or pad, but my dad's going to replace the pads in the AM and the rotors when she comes back through.
Speaking of my parents, they were e-robbed! Someone hit their checking account for $500 in January, mom didn't find out about it until last Saturday when she got the statement. Moron paid their electric bill (cheers, Deb!) and also a Cricket cellular bill or two. Obviously it's going to take an extensive investigation to track down this master fiend. Sadly, it's possible that this crime may go unprosecuted due to the dollar amount. My folks aren't out any money, the bank will make good on that, but that's not the point. Identity theft and electronic fraud is becoming a major problem and it's only going to get worse, I think this person should be prosecuted, awarded with a criminal record, and I think their credit rating should be trashed for doing such things.
But that's just me, you may feel differently. :-)

Date: 2006-02-23 04:32 pm (UTC)I got hit like this a few years ago. And, interestingly enough, the thief used my money to get Cricket services. My idiot bank allowed them to continue withdrawing funds even after I notified them. On top of that, Cricket would not talk to me.
Oh yes, and this happened when I was unemployed. I didn't know I'd gotten hit until I deposited my unemployment check, and tried to get cash back from it, and was told I had insufficient funds. WTF!!?? My balance was negative, at least until the check I'd just deposited brought it back to barely positive.
I (a) switched to a credit union as soon as I got all my money back, (b) got one of the old-fashioned debit cards that doesn't work like a credit card (I'm pretty sure the thief got access to my account by using my debit-card-that-worked-like-a-credit-card), and (c) have refused to ever do business with Cricket. I wil go without a cell phone before I will open an account with them. Likewise, if my credit union ever switches completely over to those evil psuedo-credit cards, I will write checks. Or pay cash. They've tried already, but I can still use my usual debit card. We'll see what happens when it expires.
Which brings up the question, does your mom or dad use one of those credit-debit cards?

Date: 2006-02-23 05:10 pm (UTC)I'd heard that Cricket had the all-time worst cell phone service: inability to place calls, calls getting disconnected, etc. I guess they improved their service.
Yeah, credit unions are a good thing. I much prefer them to banks, but our bank up here is pretty good. It ain't one of the mega-merged monsters that's taken over and destroyed home town banking, apparently we're too small.
