boot1780 writes "Having 'successfully sued former Palm Beach County (FL) Supervisor of Elections Theresa LePore to get the audit records for the 2004 presidential election,' Black Box Voting reports that the 'internal logs of at least 40 Sequoia touch-screen voting machines reveal that votes were time and date-stamped as cast two weeks before the election, sometimes in the middle of the night.' Besides the date discrepancies, they claim to have discovered countless other errors and anomalies, including a case of one voting machine being 'powered down 128 times during the election'." Given the findings here, can we have a do-over?

Democracy vs capitalism....

This makes me crazy. Do you suppose Cheney shot that guy just to flood the media so this wouldn't get wide-spread press?

That has been posited before. Whenever something insanely negative is about to be unveiled, something happens to grab press headlines.

I don't think Cheney shot the guy on purpose in this case, too much of a chance of killing him.

*gasp* .. you mean the election results might have been ...

tampered with?!?!

(oh noes! the horror! the shock! the awe! the ... er.. uh.. lack of surprise?)

...the possible evidence!

Yeah, no surprise, but the fact that they might actually have proof is a good thing.

My cynicism and apathy wonders if it even matters that we have proof. Of course it will matter to some people - I don't think it will be enough.

I don't watch network news (hell, I don't usually watch TV at all). Do you know if this story has hit any of the newscasts?

I think the next presidential election (if it is actually held and Bush hasn't declared himself Mr. Dictator by that point) are going to be extremely interesting.

I don't watch TV news either, unfortunately I don't listen to NPR news much anymore as the timing of local broadcasts are kinda incompatible with my schedule, I really ought to do something about that.

The next election cycle will be quite interesting. I don't think Bush can appoint himself dictator, but in a political climate 18 months from now? Who knows. If we have a HUGE terrorist event in the middle of '08, it will have major ramifications on the election. But here's an interesting point: if a major terrorist event were to happen, I think it would actually weaken his argument of President for Life as it would prove that everything they've done for the previous 7 years was futile, meaning he was ineffective. So if the circumstances did happen, it would weaken him. And those are the only circumstances that could make it possible for him to become President for Life.

Here's something that I expect to see in '07: Cheney resigns. Cheney is unelectable, his health is not good, he has zero charisma (except to Haliburton board members). I expect The Shrub to appoint John McCain as Veep and he'll be confirmed easily, that will give him a Veep advantage in the '08 elections.

Anyway, that's what I think will happen. I think it's the only way the GOP has a strong chance of continuing to hold the presidency.

I think you're thinking too much like a Democrat. McCain isn't one of His Highness's cronies/in-gang, and this is more about money and power being corralled in a very tight-knit circle which is merely wearing the Republican veneer as a manipulable route to that power. Half this circle goes back to the Nixon era and we know what kind of illegalities were sanctioned there, to say nothing of Iran/Contra a wee bit later. To them, an imperial presidency is only right and who in the world has the power to tell them otherwise? Not even the electorate, and only the Congress if they stand up on their hind legs and impeach.

Who knew much about Bush II before his nomination? I expect the GOP will pull another rabbit out of its hat in 2007 -- god help us if it's Jeb.

Your comments exactly echo my thoughts. Does it matter and will anyone take notice? I haven't seen any other news reports of this, though my own news gathering is also spotty.
