Now, at least with United and partner airlines like Lufthansa, there's one less excuse if your bags get lost. Tell your phone to share the location with the airlines - and the link expires 7 days later - and theoretically you'll be reunited with your bag sooner!
This does require iOS 18.2 and at least an iPhone 10.
I have been fortunate in my travels in that I've never lost my bag, but in my latest trip to DC I bought a lovely new Away case and planted two AirTags in it: one is obvious and easily found, the other is taped directly to the case inside the liner. And I shared both of them with my wife, so if something happens to me, she can find my luggage, too!

Date: 2024-12-14 09:16 pm (UTC)I’ve had the first happen to me, and it took a lot of legwork to track down the item. The AirTags I put in the container were instrumental. I haven’t had the second happen to me, but I have seen it happen quite a few times to others in my home city.
