Elbows up, Canada!

New York, Michigan, and Minnesota are being hit with an export tariff on power from Canada from Ontario premier Doug Ford, in an attempt to bring the American President to the negotiating table to get him to stop this idiotic talk about tariffs and talk about making Canada the 51st state of the USA.

While I'm no fan of any Canadian politician named Ford, I think this is a great move! He is further threatening to completely stop exporting power if further threats are made against Canada. The move will generate approximately $300-400,000CA per day for Canada, which will be a nice little bonus.

Part of the Orange Dumpsterfire's justification of his moves against Canada is the "flow of fentanyl across the border", which last year, amounted to something on the order of 46 lbs. There's probably more manufactured in the USA than came across the border.

One can read the Globe and Mail articles on the subject and form one's own opinion as to whether or not Dougie was (or is) a mob boss.

(Is, mid-level somewhere.)

He's not only well-equipped to comprehend what the tariffs mob cosplay is supposed to do, he's in a peculiar position where his illicit persona has stronger reasons to respond than his licit persona.

I really don't like that it's come to this for five or six values of "this", but I don't mind definitive proof that Dougie isn't part of the Russian mob.

We're being framed as a prelude to invasion. That, I'm reasonably sure of right now.

I wish Canada weren't doing the "Canadiano" thing. It utterly misses the point that the drink bears that name because Americans in Italy were too wimpshit to take their espresso neat.

Yeah, but watered-down-espresso just doesn't have an attractive ring.

Since when do provincial premiers levy tariffs? Perhaps this is some kind of surcharge, and applies only to power from Ontario? Or am I completely confused about the powers of various levels of Canadian government? (It has been a *long* time since I've lived in Canada.)

I feel the same way about "Fords", and I am not thrilled that our state is one of the victims, but I totally support Canada. :o :o :o

I had never heard of fentanyl from Canada to the US being an issue. Strange to upset Canada for some hyped up fake news.

Good on Canada for putting on pressure and not letting up on it until the stupid moves are retracted. Not great for those three states, of course, but you use the levers that you have available to you. And maybe those three states can find a way through to someone and explain to them in tiny words how much this hurts people who would otherwise be supporting this administration.
