Finally! It's been technically doable for a few months now, but now with Apple releasing a tool, it will get a lot more vendor support.

The only thing that keeps me "wed" to Microsoft is SQL Server and Access, everything else that I use is available for the Mac or has a comparable version. With this dual boot, I could have a box with a 2gig partition for XP that would give me those features.

Now what I want is a virtual machine in the Mac OS that I can have Win XP running as a window so that I don't have to reboot if I need to change OS! (not that I'm asking for too much)

Being about to dual-boot really gives incentive to a lot of people to buy Macintosh. If they really believe in the superiority of the MacOS, but they need to have a Windows system around, this is their solution. I like what Apple's doing. It means that my next computer might end up being a Mac instead.

There's no doubt that many elements of the Mac OS are superior. Take, for example, the fact that as a home user of XP Pro, you probably run as Admin. This gives total access to malware. In Mac OS, anything that you do to install a program or whatever, the system prompts you for the admin password. So basically, unless you work hard, you cannot run as root full-time.

But I also believe that as user percentage shifts from Win to Mac, you'll see a corresponding increase in malware for the Mac.

Well, MacOS noted the strengths of *nix based OS that have differing levels of access for users and for root. With the ability to implement "sudo" or its variant commands, one can stil be a user and have root access when really needed.

Of course, with Mactels, we'll see some increase in malware, but it might still be crackers and malware attacking the WinXP side of the computer rather than the MacOS.

Now my decision is made that my next machine is a Mac. Ok, I have to start saving up for that now. ^^

You can get the Intel Mac Mini for approx $800US or less, but I really like laptops.
