(I plan on trying to avoid double-posting between my blogs, but I need to spread this around a bit.)

Twice in one day I get shafted. First, last Monday I ordered two replacement filters for my reverse osmosis water filtering system. The local place that I bought it from no longer carries the brand or the filters. I receive confirmation of the order, which is cool, and then I receive an email from FedEx saying that I’ll get the order on Saturday. Sure enough, order arrives Saturday. Well, that was a game day and I didn’t bother opening the box until late that night and sure enough, there was only one filter in it. So I fired off a nastygram to the vendor to find out what happened to the other filter. It was either a shipping screw-up that wasn’t caught or the item was out of stock and their ordering system didn’t know it and they didn’t notify me of that minor little fact. Regardless, this means that I get to continue lugging around a 3 gallon container and filling it a couple times a week because I’m not going to bother tearing apart my system twice to replace the filters one at a time.

Then tonight I get my mail for the last couple of days and there’s a letter from one of my instructors saying that I’m in danger of being dropped from the class as we’re two weeks into the semester and I haven’t submitted any course work yet. It’s an open-entry/open-exit course called MS-Dos, but it’s actually Windows XP Command Line. Between the book publishers and book stores wanting to rape students for books, said text book is a $75 book new, used was around $55. So I go online to my usual source, Half.com. I can find books for about $45, which I think is still a little stiff for a two year old book. So I use a search engine and it tells me that eCampus.com has a copy for something like $35 plus shipping. So I go to eCampus and buy the book. And I receive the order confirmation email. This is two weeks ago. Tonight I go on to their web site and check my order status. Said status is cancelled. Why couldn’t the bastards send me an email saying that the vendor cancelled the order? So fired off another nastygram and told them that this gave me an extremely unfavorable first impression of their company. Yes, had I been diligent, I could have checked my order status every 5 minutes and seen exactly when the order was cancelled, but I think that should be the responsibility of the web site.

SO, if you need to buy college text books, THINK TWICE BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH ECAMPUS.COM.

The only good thing is that I received my AS/400 operating system text book so I can begin that coursework.

There. I shall now step down from my soap box. We return you to your normally scheduled programming or browsing.
