We lost a pet today, Cricket, her exact age is unknown but she was believed to be at least 13 years old. She was mainly pit bull with a touch of dachshund mainly in the ears and face. Several months ago she was having a terrible time breathing and we were afraid she would have to be put to sleep. Cricket was taken to the vet and diagnosed as having a congestive heart issue, she was prescribed some pills that I presume were doggie diuretics that helped her lose a lot of weight, this helped but wasn’t a cure. She still was breathing hard, but was capable of running and jumping.

My mom has noticed that when Cricket was having breathing problems (moreso than usual) she would sit with her head arched back, I guess trying to straighten her trachea, at time like this Cricket cannot breath if she’s lying down. Last night she was exhibiting this problem, Mom took her to the couch and rolled up a towel for her, this normally helped. Last night it didn’t help.

Mom called around 11:30am and told me about last night, and that the decision had been made to have her put to sleep at 1pm. I drove up to my parent’s house to say goodbye, arriving at 12:20, unfortunately Cricket had passed away at about 12:15.

She was interred in the back yard along with most of our other departed pets. Yes, it’s against the law, fuck the law.

Love you, Cricket. You will be missed.

I’ll be posting a photo later.

UPDATED 1/9/05:
Cricket passed about 12:15pm, for whatever reason I posted 1:15. And I'm not posting the picture unless I find some others, which I hope I can find. The final picture is not the way that I wish to remember her by.
