Today was fun. We drove up to the county seat, Elyria, and got our marriage license. I had a heck of a time getting through the metal detector because I forgot about my [blankety-blank] Palm Pilot in my pocket. Got the license, cash price $45, no credit accepted. I asked why it was cash-only, assuming that it was to avoid the concept of an invalid license should a check bounce or a credit charge be refuted, it turns out that a bulk of the money goes to a battered women's fund.
I like the concept that the money is going to a good cause, I also find it a bit incongruous that a fee you pay to get married should be used to help women who are getting beat up by their significant others and are frequently married to their abusers.
After obtaining our license, we needed to hit the mall for a couple of things. We're driving along Broad Street and I see a building with a giant chocolate-dipped strawberry on the side. We pull up and it is Suzin L. Chocolatier (230 Broad St., Elyria, OH 44035 (440)-323-3372, 1-877-530-6792). It didn't take much persuading to get Russ to stop. I'm not a huge chocolate fiend, Russ more than makes up for me. Well, this store is definitely recommended! (obviously, or I wouldn't have included the address. As far as I know they don't have a web site, but if you find yourself near Elyria and like chocolate, I would definitely recommend a stop. Amongst the many interesting things they had were truffles in three different kinds of chocolate shells: dark, milk, and white! As far as I'm concerned, dark is the only chocolate for truffles, but there are perhaps combinations that might work better with other chocolate shells. Anyway, as I said, recommended.
The stop also served to get us good directions to the mall. We found a Petsmart outside the mall and picked up a number of treats for Celeste along with an animal for her to disembowel. There was a Giant Book Sale going on in a nearby building, so we stopped, but I was disappointed as they had no books that I would consider giant. Not that it prevented us from dropping $70 there, I found very good prices on the new(ish) Douglas Adams biography and a book on the courtmartial of Gen. Billie Mitchell, he was one of the most significant players in creating air power as the method of achieving military supremacy and was put on trial for accusing Congress and by inference the President of cowardice of not furthering the development of airpower as a military strategy after World War I ended. I'm looking forward to it. Also got a book on The Wisdom of Big Bird, written by Carrol whathisname who has been the operator of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch for however many years Sesame Street has been on the air.
Entering the mall, there was a card shop directly across from the food court where we entered and we quickly found a good guest book, complete with a little stand for a pen. We then wandered a bit, looked at puppies, then walked over to the theatre and found them showing Star Wars III on two screens. Walking back to the car we found a TGI Friday's and ended up there for dinner, then off to the movie!
SO, my opinion of Revenge of the Sith. A lot of people feel that it is the best of the first three movies and on par with the original three. I agree with the former and don't really agree with the latter. There's a lot that still bothers me, and I think a lot of it boils down to the fact that I'm really not impressed with the acting ability of Hayden Christianson. I'd like to see a Cinefex or Cinefantastique because they filmed in some locations that I'd really like to know more about. The story was good enough, it was kind of predictable but that was really inevitable because we know where the story started and where it had to end (in general terms), still, there were rough spots.
Anyway, unless I post a more exhaustive rant on the subject, I really don't feel like talking more about it via blog.
There was one funny thing about seeing it. We went to the box office to ask a couple of questions. They had two showings, one at 7pm and one at 7:20. We asked if there was a difference in sound quality between the two, the guy said there was no difference, we were hoping that maybe one had DTS and the other didn't. Well, he was absolutely correct – there was no difference between the two showings because THE SOUND SYSTEM SUCKED! So now I'm going to have to see it in a good theatre when I get home so that I can get good sound, also their projector really wasn't bright enough. Maybe I'll go to a digital theatre, that'd be cool. It'll be that or the Cine Capri, if it's still showing there.
Well, we're back at Russet's parents, everyone else is in bed and I'm blogging and she's working on the observatory's science schedule for the next quarter. Wednesday will be getting my tux pressed and trying to arrange for a studio shot of the two of us in our wedding duds, we'll be aiming for Thursday afternoon after Russ gets her hair done. She decided to go to the post-wedding dinner in our wedding clothes, which will make things easier for us but at a risk of getting them a bit dirty.
I'm looking forward to seeing our honeymoon island, apparently it's a couples-only island, so that should be cool! I don't know if this is the same one that Deborak & Bill were on, apparently there's another island that also has wineries, so I'll find out when we get there.
