...and sometimes the bear bites you
Oct. 31st, 2006 03:33 amFriday we drove down to Phoenix for a Halloween party. Thursday night my Palm Pilot TX died. I maintain A LOT of information in that puppy, including obscure phone numbers not programmed into my cell phone, etc. *sigh* Fortunately my wife was marvelously wonderful and bought me a Z22, it's their entry-level model and perfectly adequate until I can get mine repaired, at which point my wife once again has a functional Palm Pilot!
We stop in Tucson for dinner Friday night. We didn't want to eat at El Charro's because we were going to have dinner with
cardigirl there Sunday night, Mimi's was out as we'd probably have Sunday lunch there with my parent's and sister's family, so we went to Olive Garden which was next to Mimi's.
Potentially big mistake. Saturday morning I was massively sick, to be resolved only by an Alka Seltzer to spur me on to actually throwing up. Bathroom cleanup ensues, along with unexpected laundry. Very nasty. Go back to bed for another couple of hours and feel fine when I get up, so it was worth it to get whatever plagued me out of my system. We go on and have lunch with friends, then out to Tempe for the party. (link to pix to follow at some point)
The party was lots of fun, one friend came as a Dark Universe Star Trek officer, very cool. His girlfriend(?) came similarly attired and won a costume prize. Russ went as Patient Zero for the Avian Influenza and killed at least five people at the party. She got a costume for Most Educational, I think she deserved scariest.
Sunday, I drag Russet out of bed so we can get to Mimi's and get our name on the list for a party of nine. My parents arrive from church ten minutes after that, shortly after that my sister calls that they're five minutes away. All is well, good lunch, reasonably pleasant conversation.
But I did something stooopid. I needed to fill up the Matrix (which hit 30,000 miles on the way home!) and decided to do it before lunch. I also decided to exploit the gas station's car wash. And then I parked under a tree.
I think word got around about Russet's costume, and some diseased birds did some target practice on the car. Fortunately it rained enough on the drive home that removing it wasn't a problem.
We caught up with Liz at El Charro's, specifically at a new location in Tucson at which I had not previously dined. VERY good conversation, lots of fun, very good food. We parted company, Russet and I hit Bookman's on the way out of town, and started home.
Which is when Russet had an attack of the exact same symptoms that I had! Fortunately hers didn't fully manifest until we got home, but she was VERY uncomfortable for a goodly part of the drive. She spent a lot of today between sitting up in bed because lying down was too painful, and in the bathroom. She felt a lot better when she went in to work, so hopefully she's well into recovery. She's off tomorrow, so hopefully sleeping all day will improve things.
We don't know what got us sick. The only things we ate in common were hitting Arby's on the way out of Alamogordo: we both had chicken stuff, plus french fries; then at Olive Garden we shared the salad, bread sticks, and dessert. Our work schedules just don't give us much time together to eat. But it was definitely a bad time for both of us!
