Want to screw up digital surveilance cameras? Build one of these!

This is pretty cool. The concept is quite simple: a headband with a ring of IR LEDs and a battery. When photographed by a surveillance camera, there's basically a big white dot where the subject's face is!

It just occurred to me: I wonder if the same thing might work for traffic/photo radar cameras... A simple license plate frame...

Well, the eclipse was a total bust over here

I was going to try photographing it, but clouds rolled in and took over and that was it for the night. Russet had the same thing at the observatory, and she had some important science to attempt that was best done with the eclipse. Oh, well: it's only another 2-3 years before the next one.

A video of three guys playing an interesting assortment of instruments: two iPhones and a Nintendo DS! I would really like to know what the software was on the DS, maybe the band's web site will post it some time.
