Another year, another anniversary!
Jun. 5th, 2011 01:29 amMy wife Russet and I hit our sixth wedding anniversary yesterday, and we haven't killed each other yet! I count that a major victory!
But seriously, it's been great being married. She's a great woman, and I'm very fortunate that she found me. Yes, we're another online dating story, and a successful one at that. For the most part, we've been married longer than almost all of my closest friends, so that's cool.
We had a FANTASTIC dinner, went to a place that we'd never seen or heard of before and we had perhaps the best food that I have had of any restaurant in New Mexico. Hands-down, period. This place was amazing! Everything made fresh, including ice cream and whipped cream. Desserts were ginormous. Russet had a breaded pork tenderloin dish that was amazing, my salmon was good but it honestly didn't blow me away (though others were impressed). And the have Beef Wellington on offer! Unfortunately, as it takes like 5 hours to make, it has to be pre-ordered. BUT WE SHALL RETURN! THE WELLINGTON SHALL BE MINE! Oh, yes, it shall be mine!
It's not cheap, the dishes are on the order of $25 a plate, but definitely well worth it.
For presents, Russet gave me a pasta machine! We attended a pasta-making class at the co-op in Las Cruces the week before last and were amazed at how easy it is to do. Recently I've been making some killer dishes, including a bolognese sauce, so we're ready to make our own pasta. Unfortunately we have a lot of travel starting in 2 weeks keeping us away from home off and on through the latter half of July, so I don't think we're going to get much use of it for a while.
I gave her a book. A really cool book. Russet's always had a serious medical bent, which was really helpful when my immunodeficiency kicked up in '09, so I got a copy of Thackery Lambshead's Guide to Eccentric and Discredited Diseases! It is a very awesome book.
And it may seem unequal exchange, I have another gift to give her, but because of our travel, I'm not going to pick it up until late July.
