Their family had a genetic mutation and they had a 70% chance of contracting stomach cancer, which they'd seen many family members die from. So they opted to have their stomachs removed. Several had the operation done at Standford, subsequent biopsy showed that they all had pre-cancerous growths.

Wow. I guess it's an easy choice to make when the alternative is almost certain death.

I've watched a similar documentation about a family in which all women had breast cancer and nearly every woman died because of it.

The two youngest women who didn't have any growths yet decided to have their breasts removed.

It's a tough choice. But I think I would do the same if I had a 90% chance of getting breast cancer (as the women in that family)...
