Richards To Shoot 'Pirates' Role in September
Keith Richards' Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 cameo will be filmed when The Rolling Stones European tour wraps up in September, following months of speculation. Johnny Depp famously based his character Captain Jack Sparrow on the guitarist, and Richards has long been touted for an appearance as Depp's father in one of the two forthcoming sequels. And, after masses of on/off speculation, director Gore Verbinski has confirmed Richards will appear in the third Pirates movie, despite falling out of a palm tree in April and subsequently undergoing skull surgery. Verbinski tells MTV, "We've written a little cameo, and Keith has scheduled us into his tour, and it's going to be a lot of fun. Apparently he's doing really well, and we'll shoot him in September."


I thought the original production was to do all the primary filming back-to-back so that they could start post-production on #II, release it, do post on #III, and a year later it's released in theaters. So how are they doing this? III is scheduled for July 2007 AFAIK, so I just don't get it.

Does anyone have any specific information on this?

Probably they have it all in the can but KR's scenes and are already doing post-production on all the rest.

That's about what I'm figuring, I can't see how it could be a very long scene without delaying post. Dunno. The thought of a walk-on cameo just doesn't do much for me.

ROTFLMAO. Richards falling out of a palm tree:

"Where's the coconut rum gone?"

That should be his part in #3.

I know. Apparently Richards was hurt pretty seriously, not quite as bad as Jackie Chan did in Armor of God (which almost killed him), but I think they did have to operate.

What I've read is that they filmed 2 and 3 at the same time, sometimes shooting a scene for 2 in the morning, then doing one for 3 in the afternoon. Both movies were shot totally out of order together.

As with all major movies, they'll add in scenes during post-production. Sometimes the director is not really satisfied with a scene when he sees the cut version, or there is something wrong they didn't realize during primary shooting, or they need to shoot an additional scene to make another scene clearer... In these cases they go back to the set and shoot the additional material. I guess, the Keith Richards scenes will be put in like this... Oh, and he was really hurt after that fall. There were rumours of the Stones cancelling their tour in Europe...
