Please read my resume before sending me any email. If it says "PLEASE NOTE -- I WILL NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS SOLICITING POSITIONS THAT ARE NOT IN THE SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO OR EL PASO, TX AREAS", then don't send me positions in Pennsylvania or California. I thought the "Not Willing To Relocate" sort of said it all. If the location is in the subject, your email will be deleted without being opened. If it is in the body, it will be deleted without a reply.

Also please note that if you have to include words in your email to elude Bayesian spam filters, it's not too likely that I'll bother clicking on your web site. I don't know if you're trying to scam information for identity theft or multi-level marketing or what, but I'm not not going to go to your site.

And finally, if the domain on the email does not match the domain on the web site that you want me to go to, I ain't gonna go. If your office is legitimate, then you need to spend $50 a year and have your hosting provider set you up with an email system for your domain. Likewise, if you're a recruiter and your initial contact email comes from Yahoo, Gmail, or Hotmail, double-minus not good and no visit for you!

It seems like every day I receive either a recruiter spam or, right now, I have one for a security position in Phoenix. It'll be deleted unread, unreplied.

Well, at least you get offers... All I get is "don't take this personal or like that you're not fitting the profile, but hey, we took someone else cuz you're not fitting our profile"-sort of answers to my applications...

Unfortunately they aren't actually job offers, they're just 'positions available'. It's an insane job market where they've given an awful lot of power to HR departments who frequently don't know what constitutes a good candidate.

For example, City of Phoenix. When they have a computer position, they have a list of buzz words, and they go through a resume ticking off the words. If they make a certain number, it's passed on for subsequent evaluation.

I got in at Phoenix Police because I'd casually known my boss-to-be and others from user group meetings for networking held in the Microsoft office.

Every good job that I've had since the mid 80's I've gotten through an inside contact. Alas, I have no such contacts here, and I'm very slow establishing them.
