Judge nixes warrantless surveillance
AP - 1 hour, 31 minutes ago

DETROIT - A federal judge ruled Thursday that the government's warrantless wiretapping program is unconstitutional and ordered an immediate halt to it. U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in Detroit became the first judge to strike down the National Security Agency's program, which she says violates the rights to free speech and privacy as well as the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution.

So, I guess my question is in two parts: (a) how long before another court overrules/reinstates, and (b) will Bush et al just ignore it?

Actually, I think it'd just take another court disagreeing to turn it into a pretty lengthy legal battle. Now, do you want to lay odds on whether or not the administration's got ONE judge in their pocket? And that'd give them all the justification they need to keep doing it in a "legal" fashion....

I really have a hard time not hoping Bush (and all culpable cronies) end up dying as winos and homeless people after years of bad press, broken relationships, and public vilification.

Bushco has already announced their intention to appeal.

I can't help but hoping not only that the ruling stands, but that Bush and his cronies do decide to ignore it. It'll only make the impeachment that much easier.*

*always assuming the Dems get off their collective asses, remember that they're the freaking opposition party and do something.

I have lost all hope in anything resembling a spine being present in the Democratic Party.

I'd be happy with signs of life at this point.

There's certainly no signs of intelligence.

Sadly not. I'm starting to think that the "Cthulu for President" bumpersticker on my car---proclaiming it the better choice when you're tired of choosing "the lesser evil"---is starting to get more and more timely.

Dare to dream.... I can't help holding faintly onto the dream that he'd piss off enough Republicans with his crap that THEY'D be the ones to impeach him!

As I said, dare to dream....
