My film club, Phoenix Fantasy Film Society, met at my place last night. We watched Bubba Ho-Tep, starring Bruce Campbell. I wish I’d called Liz, we only had four (in addition to me): Bear & Felicia, Dave and Ben. It’s a fun movie, definitely a B-movie. After it was over we watched the deleted scenes, the music video, and the theatrical trailer. Also watched various coming attractions, the one that I’m really looking forward to is Sin City. It’s based on a Frank Miller comic series, and not having read said comic, I think I’d sum it up by saying that if you took Tarentino’s Kill Bill pair and turned them into a strangely animated noir, you’d have something resembling Sin City.

We also watched a short featurette from The Incredibles DVD: Jack-Jack’s (something or other). It’s basically what happened to the babysitter when Jack-Jack’s powers began manifesting.

AND feasted on Mega-Brownies of Death (MBoD). Two Ghiradelli mixes, (I always do two as for some inexplicable reason there are people in the world who don’t like nuts in their brownies) each with an additional 1/3rd cup of chocolate chips, one mix with a bag of walnut pieces. Mucho bueno! Also A&W Root Beer, as if there is any other brand worth messing with.

Lots of good talk afterwards about San Diego ComicCon and various things, I dug through my LaserDisc collection and found my copy of Tampopo, also pulled out Brain Smasher: A Love Story (as featured on the movie line quiz that I abandoned), Millionaire’s Express with Sammo Hung, and Wing Chun, starring Michelle Yeoh. I also pulled out my DVD of A Taxing Woman, by the same director as Tampopo. I have a feeling I’m going to be having a lot of Friday night showings in my house over the next few weeks, but not all shall be provided with MBoD.

Had some good and bad with my wireless network router yesterday. I upgraded the firmware to the latest and greatest. This was a good thing as it let me establish a VPN connection with work, so with a little more work, and finding my Windows 2000 system CD, I can actually do stuff from home. But something went weird and the connection kept resetting itself at annoyingly-frequent intervals. This isn’t a big deal when you’re surfing, but if you’re playing an online game, such as City of Heroes, it can (and probably will!) kill you. I got lucky and only died twice.

So before turning in this morning I sent an email to DLink’s tech support. I was quite surprised to have a reply when I got up this morning. They recommended doing a factory reset on the router then reapply the firmware update. So I did, and things seem to be calm. I can still create the VPN connection, and I played CoH for a couple hours this AM and didn’t get booted off once.

End of bloggage.

I rather doubt I'm the "Liz" in question, but if I'd known MBoD were in the offing, I'd've sooo been there! lol And I agree: why Bear won't eat nuts in brownies or raisins in oatmeal cookies is beyond me.

Bill hates nuts in cookies and such because when he was in the Navy they put them in everything to pad the food out. Maybe Bear had a similar experience in the Army. But Bill eats nuts by themselves with no problem. ???

Personally, I prefer my brownies and chocolate-based cookies sans nuts because I think the flavors conflict. I'll eat raisins in just about anything. :-)

No no no! WINE is rotted grapes! And I love it! (Like cheese is rotten milk, and single malt scotch is...what, rotted grain?).

I put nuts in all kinds of things, including couscous and other such dishes. I like the variation of textures and the little *burst* of nutty flavor.

You most certainly are the Liz in question

I only know two Elizabeth's, and I see the other at a frequency somewhat less than once per year, so it be YOU.

There will be other times, and I'll definitely remember to call you in the future. Of course, there's always the alternative of you becoming a member of PFFS.... :-)

I'm flattered! Sure, let me know when the gathering takes place. Depending on my schedule, I may not always be johnny-on-the-spot, but for an occasional outing, it sounds good. As for PFFS: I'm not enough of a film buff to really go there. :)
