At Kmart filling prescriptions this week I spied from the corner of my eye that they had all their Christmas decorations out.

Including a wire-frame motorized dolphin for your lawn with a Santa's helper/elf cap on its head.

And here I come to the retailers' defense, which doesn't happen very often. I worked in a store that carried Christmas stuff for eight years. It is a lot of work. If it didn't go up this early (we sometimes started putting up christmas trees in August), it wouldn't be ready by November when people want to start shopping. Of course, I didn't work for a mass-merchandiser; those places may have separate crew of people who only set up seasonal (in which case they shouldn't have any reason to start so early), but I don't know. When we had to do it all ourselves and keep doing everything we already did, it was difficult to have the store ready on time, even as early as we started.

A dolphin? Really? I have seen some bizarre holiday decorations, but never a Christmas dolphin.

Actually, when I worked with retail, it was a lack of warehouse space that dictated when the Christmas stuff came out. :)
