Well, I finally got signed up at work tonight, so I guess I'll have to start writing. :-) My wife is signed up as Quasar273 (big surprise there), my author name is Cloudster47. I don't know what was happening, I could not register from home. From work, no problem. And I seem to be able to do anything on their site today from home without issue. I guess I'll chalk it up to heavy server load.

One thing that I DO NOT like about their site: Flash. Yes, Flash can be very pretty, but I just don't like it. Give me plain HTML!

Currently I've buddied Russet, Shep, Maegwin, and MH Bonham. I know there are a couple more friends out there who are doing it, but I don't remember who they are. Hopefully they'll remind me....

I feel a little intimidated, but I think it'll be good to be writing under a deadline. And like they say, once you get past your first five chapters, it's smooth sailing. Problem is, I don't think I'll be writing in a chapter format, I think each story will probably be a chapter in and of itself. So five chapters might be the whole damn thing.

In other news, I think I'm finally rested/recovered from last weekend's trip. I will normally wake up 7.5 hours after going to sleep, and today I did that. I was really dragging the last two days. And in sucky news, my laptop is acting up again. I'm considering an OS reinstall, but I really think it's a hardware issue. I don't want to send it back to the twits who worked on it last time, but the alternative is a $600+ replacement ($600 for a IBM/Lenova P4, x3+ for an Apple) and popping $600 on new hardware just ain't in the cards right now.

Wow! Good luck with NANOWRIMO! I did it one year, managed to pull off about 60,000 words in a month--was far from finished, though. Bit off more than I could chew. If you do it in reasonable increments, it really isn't that tough. Don't skip any days, though, or you're screwed!

There's alsow NaNoAlMo--where you write an entire album in one month. I was thinking about doing that maybe next year after I learn to play guitar better!

I saw they're also doing a screen play month, I thought that was kinda cool. Not that I have a clue on how to write screen plays.

Good luck with the guitar!

Good luck on NaNo! I've always felt that I don't have a novel in me, but I have a bunch of short stories. A few of the podcasts that I listen to are going to be doing NaNo stuff (The Secrets and I Should Be Writing) and if I hear anything interesting I'll be sure to pass it along.

Cool, thanks! I'm essentially doing several short stories that are directly or indirectly related, aside from the linking location framework.

A collection of short stories is perfectly acceptable, they're rather flexible on what you write. The whole objective is to get you writing.

I'll add you as soon as the homepage loads properly again. I haven't started yet on my novel, though.

Their site is a little slow, and this page that always pops up saying "you've done something, congrats! now wait for the next page to load!"

Very stupid navigation methodology.

Added you back... Will you post your finished novel here in Lj? Or do you plan on publishing it?

Good question. I don't even want to speculate about that before the end of November, I'll wait and see if I manage to finish it first! My ideal would be for it to be published and then to release it through the Creative Commons license like Cory Doctrow did. But the first goal is to simply complete it, then I'll have my wife pour over it to edit, then we'll go from there.

What about you? Do you plan on trying to get it published?

I don't really know yet. At the mo' my head is spinning with enough ideas to make a series out of it, like "Dark Britain" or something, but just like you, I first wanna see, if I can finish the novel...

Since I still dream of my own publishing business, I can imagine using the novel as a start up, just like the rpg I'm knitting together...

Hurrah for you and Lady Thewayne on the NaNo front! Me, I'm thinking of starting a NaNo auxiliary - NaNoCheerMo, perhaps?
