I'd love to see Holmes retain his sanity in the face of that.

Hrm. I somehow think that Holmes could probably look at C'thulhu's face and stay sane. Assuming he'd deduced the existence of the Old One beforehand and logically eliminated any other conclusion that he could have come to. It would likely still be unpleasant for him, but he'd probably stay sane.

Haha. Well, it's probably better than a story where we find out Holmes is actually one of the Old Ones, and that his detective business is a way of keeping tabs on all the others by investigating the doings of their minions.
