(Huh. I just noticed that apparently LJ is wiping out my apostrophies when I email entries in. That kinda sucks.)

This is not an easy wedding to set up. Russet is in New Mexico, Im in Phoenix, and the wedding is in Ohio. Shes been getting a lot done with the help of her mom to arrange things over there, a minister has been lined up and what appears to be sufficient hotel rooms. Still to come: location and chair rental. Russ found a bed & breakfast on an island on Lake Whatever (Im geographically-challenged). Eire, I think. But the ferry rates are higher and its over an hour drive from Oberlin, so were not going there until Sunday. This island is apparently really cool, Im thinking about putting a Geocache on it while were there, assuming there isnt one there already.

On my side, Im trying to find The Tux, Im also working on wedding vows and arranging transport from this side. Fortunately it looks like well be able to book Southwest at $200 or less round trip and my youngest niece will fly free as she wont be five until the end of June.

Today is normally a school day for me, but the teacher made it a workshop and we didnt have to be there if we didnt want to be. Wednesday we turn in our outlines for our next speech and I already have mine done, hopefully Ill have a good amount of the speech also done (a persuasive speech on identity theft, Ill be talking about what it is and how you defend yourself). So I took a long lunch, still shorter than going to school, and went and looked at tuxes.

Theres this one shop pretty close to my parents house, unfortunately they really didnt have much on display as it is prom season, so I poured through a book. Apparently white is out, or has been in greatly reduced demand for some time. Still, they had four white tuxes, two with tails. I quite liked one, so we should be good. And I did it in about an hour.

And we do want white as were both virgins. (Just wanted to cause a spit take cross-country! LOL)

Heading back to work I decided to stop at Taco Hell and I pulled out The Idiots Guide to Unconventional Weddings, did some reading up on suggestions for do-it-yourself vows and ceremonies, found some good stuff, including a really good Apache saying that Im definitely going to work in to the ceremony. I was literally half a mile from the central branch (an oxymoron if there ever was one, or perhaps just a redundant nonsequiter?) of the Phoenix Public Library. I stopped by, headed up to the 5th floor, and looked up wedding vows in the online search computer (theyre at 392.5 AN15E if youre interested) and then off to the racks!

I found three books that I checked out, two on vows and one on hand-fasting and related things. But one thing really caught my eye: the section after all these wedding topics contained prostitution and funeral rites. Heck of a combination, one stop shopping! LOL.

I found that amusing, but then again, I'm easily amused.

I love the Lake Erie islands!

We were just up there a couple years ago. If you're lucky enough to be staying on South Bass Island (aka Put-in-Bay) go to the Heinemann Winery and get the free sample of their grape juice. OMG does it have a kick! You can rent golf carts and drive like a fool on all the city streets there. Bill and I had a blast.

Apparently we'll be on Middle Bath (Bass?) Island, maybe we can take a ferry over. We'll try and check out the winery, I've never been to one before.

And people wonder how librarians can stand being in such quiet, seemingly-dull places day after day after day..... When you can find things like that, the outside world has little to offer in competition.

Good luck with the setup of it all. It is a lot of work, especially when y'all are doing it all yourselves. I remember all too well going through that about 6 years ago when we finally set a date and got to work on finding a place, rings, suitable clothes, etc.

The best part of it, though, is that you can design the ceremony so that it has meaning for the two of you. Given that you're the ones whose lives will be most directly impacted, that's always made the most sense to me.

Fingers are crossed for you both, my friend....
