Once upon a time you could buy effective cough and cold medicine. It was effective because it contained pseudoephedrine. But then the druggies found that it was really useful in making bathtub meth. Now, because of the druggies, the rest of us can't get effective products like Robitussin Maximum Strength Cough & Cold. I have found it to be totally effective for me for controlling my cough and improving my sinuses, but now I can't buy it. Now you can only buy weaker things that aren't as effective or not effective at all. And I really hate buying random stuff off the shelf hoping that one will work: most of them won't, and you'll be popping $5-10 per trial to see if it does anything for you.

GRRR! They kept other drugs on the market that contain pseudoephedrine and just moved them behind the counter and required a log, WHY NOT COUGH SYRUP! I had to leave a class an hour early yesterday because I couldn't get my cough to stop. Stupid druggies.

I think you're thinking of dextromethorphan. Pseudoephedrine is not that hard to get.

Why hate on your fellow man when the true villain here is governmental prohibition, which creates a black market for the monetary benefit of its law enforcement agencies?

Sorry you have a cough, though.

I have no problem with the legalization of many drugs, though I'm not sure meth would be on my "allowed" list. The "War On Drugs" has definitely been a waste of resources, no doubt about it. Yesterday, in fact, seven people were murdered in Acapulco due to a drug war. Decriminalizing pot would make Northern Mexico a much safer place.

But I also have a direct monetary outlay from druggies: I had to have the bathtub in my condo resurfaced because the previous occupants had used it to make meth in.

I think Holland has done a great job in their society with their drug policies. But it came with a price: higher taxes.

The sad thing is that if Nixon had stayed the course with drug rehab programs, we might not have had a War On Drugs. Would have saved an incredible amount of money and lives for the country.

I'm with you there. It really is fucked up that the majority of us have to go without a medication that's very safe and effective just because a minority have learned how to do fucked-up things with it.

Don't they sell it behind the counter? You just show your ID and buy it at the pharmacy here. They take down your info so that if you're buying all over town to make meth, it throws up a red-flag. It also curtails theft for the same problem.

Meth ripped apart my home town. My youngest sister and a good friend of mine had a bad problem with it. Both of them were able to kick, but it took a long time to get over using. It's an ugly drug and I'm happy to put up with the inconvenience of buying sudafed if it will keep one more Council Bluffs kid from getting hooked.

Most of the cough syrup makers voluntarily removed pseudoephedrine from their products because they didn't want to lose the sales. (I, for one, find it very annoying to have to go to the counter for a product, and registering with my name and address? That's obnoxious!)
