It works best (allegedly) on samples of more than 500 words. I've plugged in various text from my blog and it keeps going back and forth as to whether I'm male or female. I'm going to have to feed it some of my fiction at some point.

My fiction fools it. :-)

The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!

It pegs me as a girl on blogging, however.

Both my blog entries and fiction come out as male.

Yesterday's blog post came back accurately in gender, but I wonder why "the", the most common word in the language, is considered a male keyword.

I played with that thing a year or so back, after reading an article about it, and it consistently pegged my academic writing as male (and I wonder if that says anything about how academic writing is taught, but I'd have to try it with other academic writing by women to test that hypothesis), and on my informal writing, both from my blog and other writing I've done, it was about 50/50. I don't think I plugged in any fiction, since most of my fiction is nearly ten years old.

It says my fiction is male. Which is . . . pretty much what I would expect.
