Yeah, it's true - we should be telling the record companies that we hate DRM, rather than telling Apple we hate DRM, because Apple can't really do anything about it. The record companies, however, do not seem to be very interested in opening up to us and eschewing DRM.

As has been pointed out by uncountable people uncountable times, the record companies just don't get it. They want absolute control over everything we listen to, and that just won't happen. They blame everything on piracy when it's demonstrable that a lot of money is moving from music to DVD and other entertainment options.

If they want to sell more music, then MAKE MORE MUSIC THAT'S WORTH LISTENING TO!
