LOL! Yep. But where/when the heck did FTW enter pop culture? I have a couple of friends who use it regularly on WoW, I'd never heard of it.

Originally it's from the old Hollywood Squares game show. The phrase got abbreviated for use in l33t speak, was spread through online gaming, and has been popping up more and more in blog culture.

Wow. I remember HS very well! Paul Linde in the middle, old Charlie in the lower left with his tin soldiers.

Ah, now I remember! I'd completely forgotten that phrase and connotation. Thanks for the memory, I needed something pleasant today (aside from getting some moderately slick code working that me and other SQL DBA's would probably be the only ones to appreciate).

It made me feel unbelievably old that the first personality I thought of in relation to HS was Charlie Weaver. Most of the newbs would barely remember Whoopie Goldberg being on that show.

I couldn't remember Charlie's last name off-hand. Yeah, you're probably right. Whoopie would probably be history for newbs.
