Not terribly surprising: Star Wars was revolutionary, but not that great of a story.

I think Serenity played out well for the fans of the show. I hadn't really seen more than a couple of the television episodes though. Fox kept moving it around and I missed most of it. I could follow along the movie well enough, but my husband couldn't. He'd never seen the tv show and a lot of the movie didn't make sense to him.

As has been discussed to death, Fox mishandled the show so badly that there was little it could do but crash and burn. If a new show doesn't bring in humongous ratings for Fox in the first couple of eps, it's probably doomed.
