I don't know why, perhaps it is anxiety of which I am not aware, but I frequently don't sleep well the night before going somewhere. Not sleeping well is probably the wrong phraseology; I sleep well, but I wake up early. Wednesday night was no exception, I got everything done and was in bed before 11pm. And I woke up at about 2:30am.

I got somewhere between four and five hours of sleep.

Not really a big deal since I was flying, not driving. Go to work, do some cool stuff, leave at noon, go home and get suitcase along with a few minor errands, and head off to El Paso to catch a plane. Be sure to pack a BIG net. I get to the airport two hours before the flight, which is what I normally like, and get to the gate. Everything is on time for a 4:30 departure, so I take a nap and later put it back. I wake up and see the board has been changed and the departure time is now 5:30. Turns out the problem is getting the plane in from Dallas. 5:30 gets pushed to 6pm, we finally got to the gate in Phoenix at 6:15. My first event as Phoenix Con Games was at 7pm and I hadn't yet left the airport.

*sigh*

So I didn't get to play Chez Goth, something that I've been looking forward to. Oh, well. Had a good dinner with my parents and eventually got to the hotel. Wandered around a bit, hooked up with some friends, had a good time. Eventually got to bed.

Today I have played two convention games, both Steve Jackson: SPANC (Space Pirate Amazon Ninja Cat Girls) and Cow Poker. Won the first, did well on the second but didn't win. SPANC is a lot of fun, illustrated by Phil Foglio! Normally the SJ Games "Men In Black" (the people who run SJ Games demos at conventions) give a copy of the game run to the winner, unfortunately they didn't have a spare copy of SPANC and I got a copy of Snits instead. I'm hoping that they can arrange a swap for me, we'll see what happens.

[livejournal.com profile] joecthulhu bought a new(ish) game called Unspeakable Words. It's a cool word game with a great Cthulhu twist! Each card has a letter and number value equal to the number of angles of the letter, so an A is five points. So let's say you score 10 points with WOW (no angles in O). You now have to roll a d20 equal to or above the points that you just scored. If you fail the roll, you lose one of your five little plastic Cthulhus! (they're SOOOO CUTE!)

There are some cool optional rules to regain sanity etc. Very neat game for 2-6 for $20. You need to decide some Scrabble-type house rules before playing, though. We got into a bit of a argument over my wanting to use 'nano', I eventually found another word. Then Tim wanted to use 'tao', and I told him no way. I also told him that I'd accept 'oat'.

I got a copy and look forward to playing it. I think Russet will like it. You have to tread a fine line between big words and trying to keep your sanity!

And here's one for Shep & Maegwyn: Patrick Kapera and John Wick are here.
