"I don't want to satirize George Bush and his puppeteers, I want to vaporise them."

Date: 2007-07-28 11:45 pm (UTC)At the same book store, late last year IIRC, I picked up a four disc box set(!) of Tom Lehrer! It is pretty much a complete collection, so there's 2-3 copies of several songs. And as an extremely cool bonus -- an intro booklet written by Doctor Demento!

Tom Lehrer
Date: 2007-07-29 11:41 pm (UTC)I've loved Tom Lehrer ever since high school in the late 60's. Bought all his vinyl LP's back then. The box set REMAINS OF TOM LEHRER is beyond my financial means at the moment, but I checked it out of the local library and burned it to my hard drive (evil me, heh).
Here are a bunch of videos (one will play right after the other) that I found and collected ~ I thought you might enjoy them. I certainly hope the Powers That Be don't decided to annihilate them, as they are wont to do.

My large extended (mostly-formerly Catholic) family has always been partial to "The Vatican Rag."

Okay, I'll leave now.......
Re: Tom Lehrer
Date: 2007-07-30 01:55 am (UTC)I think my first exposure to Lehrer was in the 70's listening to Dr. Demento. I'm fairly sure that Poisoning Pigeons in the Park was the first Lehrer that I heard, though I swear I remember him doing a version of "Has Anybody Seen My (Martian) Gal?" that went "Eight foot two, solid blue, five transistors in each shoe: has anybody seen my gal?"
I felt very fortunate to have stumbled upon a used copy of the Rhino boxed set. All hail Rhino!
And I shall certainly pop over to that community!
Eight foot two, solid blue...
Date: 2007-07-31 01:28 am (UTC)I wish Rhino would release all his LP's in CD form. Instead, we merely get "The Best of Allan Sherman." What "the best" is tends to be objective, y'know?
Yeah, Dr Demento ~ I'd groove on him during the years of my first marriage (1970-1983). Listening to the good Dr is how I discovered the joys of Weird Al!
