So after they're born, lock 'em in a steel coffin with intakes for air, water, and food and outtakes for the stuff that needs to be taken out, and keep 'em in it for 21 years. Ignoring the fact that going to school is statistically as safe as flying in an airplane and that, regardless of what Dateline's To Catch A Predator, their estimate that "there are 50,000 predators online at any moment -- a number the show pretty much made up out of thin air, though that didn't stop Attorney General Alberto Gonzales from citing it as fact in a speech last year. But a study conducted by the University of New Hampshire estimated that there were fewer than 2,900 arrests for online sexual offenses against minors in a single year. What's more, only 1,152 involved victims who were approached by strangers on the Internet -- and more than half this number were actually cops posing as kids."

It's like everything in the news today, the only goal is to keep people panicking. As long as people keep their minds on stuff like perverts or catastrophies (I don't say that those things are not serious!), economy and politics can do whatever they like cuz noone has an eye on them. That's my theory though, and I might of course be wrong, but the news are there only to manipulate and entertain, NOT to bring us news...

My brother fell into the latter category because my parents made sure we all understood about proper behavior, and that they wouldn't be mad at us if we told them anything. And proper online behavior as well— I started a little BBS-ing when I was eight and had safe rules explained to me. Teach your kids to be smart and there shouldn't be any problems.

"The focus on 'stranger danger' makes most people less suspicious of those they know," says Jill Levenson, a leading sex-crimes researcher at Lynn University in Florida. "And that could make it easier for known abusers to fly below the radar.""
