Had a wonderful weekend

My best friend Audrey drove over from Phoenix. Saturday was the semi-annual Trinity Site tour, so we did that. Saturday night was a star party at White Sands, Russ brought the poodle out from 'Cruces and we met for dinner in Alamo then went off to the stargazing. It was absolutely perfect seeing conditions! You could see the Milky Way with your unaided eye, we saw numerous planets, galaxies, etc., etc. Very cool!
Sunday Audrey and I went to Old Mesilla and we spent a couple of hours with me teaching her the fundamentals of photography. She has a good eye, but is missing an understanding of how exposure actually works in terms of the relationship of exposure value, aperture, and shutter speed. I also had her do a series of tripod-mounted shots where the camera is pointing at a fixed object to get the concept of lens coverage and depth of field drilled into her tiny little brain, hopefully it'll stick. :P
We ate at some good restaurants, watched the first two eps of Stargate Atlantis (having to explain LOTS of stuff to Audrey), had the poodle invade Audrey's room and pillage food that she'd brought (3/4ths a bag of fig newtons, lots of pretzel chips, etc) and just had an excellent weekend overall. We spent a good amount of time last night going over her photos from the afternoon, it was a lot of fun for me to play photography instructor.
Now she's gone, fortunately she works for the Feds so she is off today so her trip wasn't rushed. It's a longish drive, about 400 miles, but it's real easy once you get past Tucson. She's going to meet up with us in a month for TusCon, which should be a lot of as we'll have lots of insane friends there! Oh, and John Ringo is GoH, so that'll be cool. Maybe I can fill in a couple of paperbacks that I'm missing.
