Of course, James Doohan wasn't Scottish, either (except by ancestry); he was Canadian.

Absolutely true, there were lots of people from Canukistan in the original series.

If I recall correctly, he preferred his Russian accent, but Roddenbary et al liked his Scottish.

I just hope they don't botch it. I've been a Star Trek fan from the beginning of the first series. They could really ruin things with all the PC crap that seems to be pre-requisite for all current ST productions.
