Of course, it couldn't be a woman forced to live in a religious totalinarianism. Someone who has absolutely no say in her appearance, and who hasn't had any say in over a century. Sheesh. There's a Dilbert cartoon where there is a PHB (pointy-haired boss) factory, sort of a management training course, and the first thing they do is remove the brain. I guess they split at that point between IT management and conservative talk show hosts, the diff being that they pour in vitriol into the latter.

Then again, there's always they poem by Kipling about Afghani women and saving your last bullet if you're wounded in battle....

When I see a woman in a burka (in person, not in the media), I see a woman who is poorly acculturated. I strongly believe that whatever your religious preference, you should not wear burkas in the street in the United States of America. We do not have sharia law here and modesty is about not making a spectacle of yourself. This is why the Quakers no longer wear "plain" clothes.

If I moved to another country, I would do my best to learn the language and customs. I would do my best to dress appropriately. Clinging to modes of dress that are highly offensive to a great number of people in your new country is rude and counter-productive.
